The Drive To Make A Difference:
When I was a small child, I told everyone I wanted to be a dentist. Unlike most kids, I actually looked forward to going to the dentist because I thought the office was pretty cool and the staff was always friendly. I vividly remember a fish tank that doubled as a coffee table in the middle of the waiting area. I also remember being able to play video games in the lobby while waiting for my brother and sister to finish their appointments. My mom always said that I wanted to become a dentist as soon as I took a ride up and down in the dental chair. I was so fascinated. But as I continued to grow up, I didn’t think much about a career in dentistry until a little later in life.
Fast forward to graduating from college, I was exploring a variety of careers in health care. As fate would have it, I was going through some old boxes when I found a picture I’d drawn in 2nd grade. The assignment was asking what I wanted to be when I grew up. Most kids would say something like a police officer, teacher, fireman, or veterinarian. I had drawn myself as a dentist. It felt like a sign from the universe all these years later to follow that very young dream. From that moment on, I set my sights on a career in dentistry.
